The Seven of Spades is back with a vengeance—the vigilante serial killer has resumed their murderous crusade, eluding the police at every turn. But a bloodthirsty killer isn’t the only threat facing Sin City. A devious saboteur is wreaking havoc in Las Vegas’s criminal underworld, and the entire city seems to be barreling toward an all-out gang war.
As Detective Levi Abrams is pushed ever closer to his breaking point, his control over his dangerous rage slips further every day. His relationship with PI Dominic Russo should be a source of comfort, but Dominic is secretly locked in his own downward spiral, confronting a nightmare he can’t bear to reveal.
Las Vegas is floundering. Levi and Dominic’s bond is cracking along the seams. And the Seven of Spades is still playing to win. How many bad hands can Levi and Dominic survive before it’s game over?
The self-styled vigilante is on a mission to cut down the wicked and treacherous, and Sin City has no shortage of targets for their bloody wrath. What happens in Vegas . . . ends with the Seven of Spades’s calling card on a grisly corpse.
Standing against the killer are Levi Abrams, a dedicated homicide detective locked in a constant struggle to restrain his own dark side, and bounty hunter Dominic Russo, a charming rogue with a heavy secret weighing on his shoulders.
The hunt for the Seven of Spades sends Levi and Dominic on a collision course, igniting a passionate relationship forged in conflict and sealed with blood. Together they’re stronger than the sum of their parts, but a wily, elusive serial killer isn’t the only threat that will strain their bond to the breaking point.
Ante up, because the Seven of Spades is all in. Are you?
5✨s – I have loved this series from the first word and each installment has been a polished thrill ride filled with mystery, suspense, explosive chemistry and a whodunit that’s giving me whiplash. Every person I suspect to be the killer is someone that would be devastating to the main characters—Levi and Dominic— and yet, I feel like that’s an inevitable pain we must all be braced for.
Another pain, one I sorta kinda thought was coming, was the discord in the relationship. Their coming together wasn’t exactly a meet-cute, and while they have all the potential to be rock solid, the SoS is taking its toll. Tensions are high, things are at the breaking point and sometimes that has to happen for people (and relationships) to be stronger.
Unlike Nat, Rohan is not on my suspect list. I didn’t like him at all and that feeling grew throughout the book, but that almost made him too obvious. He may well be a bad guy or there with his own agenda, or he may just be a fed with a ‘better than everyone else’ mentality, but I don’t think he’s got the intelligence, sophistication, or patience to be the Seven of Spades killer.
I could be wrong about all of it of course, and that’s exactly why I’m on the hook for the next two promise-to-be heart stopping installments.
Are you on the ride with us or are you waiting until all the books are out?
5✨s – This latest installment in the Seven of Spades series has left me emotionally drained, for all the right reasons! Levi, Dominic and the search for the elusive killer have captivated me from the start and watching my poor book boyfriends take so many hits both emotional and physical, left me utterly verklempt for a while. Levi and Dominic are working on separate cases that end up colliding once again but with some devastating consequences. The Seven Of Spades is still “helping” Levi and Dominic, manipulating Levi and the police, escalating his vigilante justice while remaining out of reach. This brings in FBI agent and profiler Rohan Chaudhary, who rubs Levi the wrong way from the get-go and worsens it when he tries to cozy up to Dominic. That’s just the start of all the action we get in this story.
Levi and Dominic’s bond is growing steadily stronger as the story opens, with Dominic even meeting Levi’s parents. But events are turning their relationship into a ride down the rapids, they’ve lost the paddles and no one knows where the waterfall is. (Okay, so I suck at metaphors) Sex scenes in this story were almost disturbing to me, not due to any physical act and they were very hot but were precipitated by the very problems our lovers are dealing with individually. I’ve also decided I want to add Rohan to my shortlist of suspects, just because I don’t like him but there’s really no guessing the identity of the killer in this episode.
Don’t plan to sleep or eat once you open this book because it is riveting from start to finish. The author displays a masterful touch, balancing a complex suspense plot with the growing divide between Levi and Dominic. The sharp attention to investigative detail, the written choreography of Krav Maga fighting and gun battles plus the depiction of the serial killer’s murders leave me in awe of Cordelia Kingsbridge as a writer. Obviously it’s not a stand-alone but this is one series you really should catch up on if you’re any kind of romantic suspense fan. You won’t regret it!
