Buy Salt Magic Skin Magic by Lee Welch on Amazon UniversalLord Thornby has been trapped on his father’s isolated Yorkshire estate for a year. There are no bars or chains; he simply can’t leave. His sanity is starting to fray.

When industrial magician John Blake arrives to investigate a case of witchcraft, he finds the peculiar, arrogant Thornby as alarming as he is attractive. John soon finds himself caught up in a dark fairytale, where all the rules of magic—and love—are changed.

To set Thornby free, both men must face life-changing truths—and John must accept that the brave, witty man who’s winning his heart may also be about to break it. Can they escape a web of magic that’s as perilous as love?

About Lee Welch:
Lee Welch lives on a hill in the windiest city in the world – Wellington, New Zealand. She shares the house with her partner, two kids and two cats. Hedgehogs visit occasionally, which makes her happy. Lee wrote her first novel (an unpublished pastiche of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) when she was seven and has been writing on-and-off ever since. She studied ancient history at Auckland University and creative writing at Birkbeck, University of London. By day, she works as an editor and business communications adviser for a large government department. By night, she writes mostly m/m romances, usually with magic in them. She likes crumbling mansions, cavernous libraries and most things with tentacles.

Interview with Lee Welch:

  1. What is your writing process? I do months of research, thinking and world-building before I start writing. This used to freak me out because at the end of a hard day’s work I often had nothing to show for it. Now I accept that it’s essential. For me, anyway. I don’t write story plans beyond notes like ‘they escape’ or ‘J tells S the truth about R’, so I never know exactly what will happen. I’m often surprised at the things that come out.
  2. What is the hardest part of that process for you? Finding a basic idea or premise that truly excites me. It has to feel original. It has to surprise and delight me – or I’m pretty sure it won’t surprise and delight the reader.
  3. There’s a big leap a writer takes from putting words down on paper for the love of it and actually publishing those words for public scrutiny. What was that journey like for you? It’s both exhilarating and terrifying. I’ve told myself stories about men falling in love since I was about twelve. But, with publication, suddenly other people are judging my imagination and my ability to tell a story. That can be hive-inducing. On the other hand, I’m not hiding any longer. Finally, I’m showing people my writing. Knowing there are people out there loving Salt Magic Skin Magic is the best feeling in the world!
  4. What one piece of advice would you give an aspiring writer? Write about things that delight and fascinate you. That way, writing becomes a glorious kind of play. It’ll be hard, but it’ll never be a chore.
  5. What can readers expect from you next? I have a short story in the next Teacher’s Pet anthology from NineStar Press – my story’s about an apprentice magician who falls in love with his red-eyed master – and who nearly dies of embarrassment when a piece of illicit magic goes wrong. Beyond that – a few people have suggested a sequel to Salt Magic Skin Magic – so, maybe that?
  6. You’re auditioning for a singing competition, what’s your song? As an introvert who can’t sing, this would be hell. But if forced, I’d pick the Magnetic Fields’ ‘There are two kinds of people’ because it’s very short, sung in a deep monotone (i.e. like my voice) and it’s romantic and creepy at the same time.

Thanks to Jessie for hosting me! Two people emailed to tell me one thing they like about hedgehogs, so I’ve decided to send them both a free ebook for their awesome, pro-hedgehog attitude. Roz and Amy – I’m emailing you now – and I really hope you enjoy Salt Magic Skin Magic. Cheers, Lee 🙂
