Sleep wasn’t something that came easy to him on the best of days and Colin hadn’t harbored any illusions that tonight would be any different. For just a few short hours, he’d been able to tune it all out and just focus on Arnaud, and it had been wonderful. Better than wonderful. And nothing bad happened. They’d talked, danced, and kissed each other stupid until the club lights dimmed and they had no choice but to call it a night.

They rode that good feeling all the way back to Arnaud’s apartment, sharing secret smiles and blistering kisses until the car stopped at his door. Letting him go up alone was the hardest thing Colin had ever done and even his driver had given him a pitying look. Jim was a consummate professional, always kept his eyes forward and his opinions to himself. There were no words needed for that look to get the message across: What the hell was his problem? It was a damn good question.

Colin ignored the curious eyes that kept glancing at him in the rearview mirror and was thankful the ride back to Saul’s was quick. There was a brief moment when he thought Jim was actually going to say something, but it passed with a shake of his salt and pepper buzz cut and Colin could only be relieved. How far had he fallen that his driver would pass judgement on his personal life?

rightquotesPretty fucking far, actually. Arnaud had been right there in his arms—hot, willing, eager, at times bordering on desperate and he had no problem showing all that to Colin. Yet, when they stood just outside his apartment building, those molten eyes begging for love and affection, Colin had bolted like the hounds of hell were chasing him. Yes, bolted. Now he was alone with only his wounded pride and the ghosts of his past to keep him company.
