While deployed on a covert mercenary assignment, Johnny doesn’t have much in the way of holiday cheer. But the mysterious notes from Dex that somehow appear in his bunk—reminding him of the gifts, cookies, celebrations, and most of all, love, waiting for him back in Wisconsin—help him get through the long, hot days. Will they be enough to keep his spirits up when the rest of his unit goes home to their families and he’s left alone?

Someone working away from home for Christmas sounds so hard to me. Especially for servicemen and women who have no way to communicate with their loved ones. Johnny may not be in the Marine’s anymore but he’s employed by a company doing work just as important and top-secret, meaning he can’t contact his boyfriend, Dex. That hasn’t stopped Dex, however, making sure that Johnny gets a little bit of Christmas cheer in the two weeks leading up to Christmas with a letter left for him every three days.
It’s so romantic, tugging on my heartstrings as I read this romantic Christmas story. The emotions come through from both men as you read one man wanting to be home and one wanting his man home. It really resonates with how hard it is to be away from home but especially at important times for people such as Christmas. For me, it has a perfect ending and is a fabulous addition to the Advent series.
